By: Darren Williger

No matter what you are trying to sell “talking” will have to come into the mix at some point.  When selling Online a “sales letter” can act as your form of communication to your prospective buyers. The sales letter can act as your vehicle to the prospective client. You can set your clients mood if it is well written.  The sales letter can add vision to your product if it is worded well making it easier to slide into the sale of the product on follow-up.

The Sales letter follows a successful formula:

  1. Gets the prospective clients attention
  2. Gets them interested in what it can do for them
  3. Encourages the sale of the product by getting them interested in the benefits
  4. Demands action.

This well known formula is called the “AIDA” formula. Meaning attention, interest, desire, and action. This has worked for several successful salesmen and women all around the world.

Your overall sales letter should be punchy and too the point. A long drawn out sales letter will cause your readers to grow tired and give them time to lose interest. Making your sentences with descriptive and visual words will have them wanting more. Underlining  your important points and adding bullets as well as sub-headlines will attract their attention.

Making sure that your mailing have the highest quality. Making sure that you spend the time needed to create a great sales letter is dire. This will show in the sales letter. If you are not willing to do it right; don't waste your time! This will only hurt you! Using a hand stamp will send the wrong sign to your prospective clients. Use of printed addresses on address labels is a more professional look. Increasing even the small things will improve the overall look of your sales letter. Presentation is an important part of being taken seriously.

Being sure to include your address at the bottom of the page is important. More prospective clients will contact you if they can contact you through mail. Making sure that you don't include a P.O. Box as your address is also importance. If you can make the address appear as a suite by including # instead of PO Box. This will give the appearance of a proper address. Many prospects will not purchase from a PO Box and look for a physical address before buying.

In the end the design is up to you. The more time and quality you put into your sales letter the more sales you will get out of it. To summarize it is important to have a  high quality to the point sales letter to bring in prospective clients. They will look at the overall letter and can surely see the time you spend on it. Know that most Internet browsers have a short attention span and can be distracted easily. Ensuring you are short and sweet will help more readers get through your sales letter. Being successful in sales and delivering a good sales letter will help you achieve your goals and in the end isn't that what we are all after?
